Therefore, sleep deprivation can lead to weight gain. Without adequate rest, the satiety and hunger hormones leptin and ghrelin become abnormally active. This triggers cravings for sweets.
Dr. Meadows assures that if you care about your health and figure, you should make sleep a priority. A 2010 University of Chicago study found that dieters who sleep through the night lose half their weight as fat. Those who follow the same regimen but don't get enough sleep lose weight primarily from muscle mass and experience increased hunger. In 2018, scientists found that people who sleep 7 to 9 hours a night feel less hungry.
It's best to combine exercise and sound sleep; results will be quick and effective. To lose weight, lounging in bed alone isn't enough: you need a holistic approach, leading a healthy lifestyle, and maintaining a calorie deficit.
