Photos of the new BMW X5 surface in the media (6 photos)
The premiere of the crossover's fifth generation is expected any day now.
The first photos of the fifth-generation BMW X5 from a private unveiling surfaced online back in March 2026; now, just a day before the anticipated global premiere, the website Cochespias has published several shots from the official photoshoot. The images show the electric iX5 variant.
As expected, the BMW iX5 bears a strong visual resemblance to its smaller sibling, the iX3. The vehicle adopts the *Neue Klasse* design language, featuring narrow kidney grilles and headlights concealed between stylized daytime running lights (DRLs). However, while the iX3’s running lights resemble checkmarks, the iX5 features an "X" shape.
Another notable distinction is the complete absence of door handles in the usual spots. Instead, small "winglets" are located at the lower edge of the side windows. BMW previously employed a similar design feature on the limited-edition Speedtop shooting brake.
The iX5’s interior architecture incorporates the same signature *Neue Klasse* elements found in the iX3, including a uniquely shaped steering wheel, an instrument cluster display positioned closer to the windshield, and an angled infotainment touchscreen. However, the larger crossover also gains a third screen located in front of the passenger.
We will learn all the technical details about the new model soon, but judging by the badge in the photo, it is the iX5 60 xDrive; this implies a dual-motor powertrain delivering 578 hp and a 141 kWh battery.
