When flags lose their familiar appearance: an artist reimagines national symbols (9 photos)
In 2022, Canadian artist Raymond Bisinger presented a series of surreal works titled "Irregular Flags." The project included dozens of illustrations in which the artist intentionally violated the traditional rules of heraldry and national symbol design. In his works, flags are transformed into unusual visual constructs, changing shape, perspective, and even physical properties. Familiar national symbols appear simultaneously recognizable and strange, forcing viewers to rethink objects typically perceived as unchanging.
According to the artist, the project explores the relationship between national identity, design, and the collective perception of symbols. Thanks to its unusual presentation, the series quickly attracted the attention of contemporary art and graphic design enthusiasts. Bisinger's works exemplify how familiar images can take on entirely new meaning by altering just a few visual details.
