A Chevrolet Camaro with a Boeing Helicopter Engine Put Up for Sale (11 photos + 1 video)
An unusual homemade car, built by its creator over nine years, is being sold at the online auction site Bring a Trailer. The most original innovation is the replacement of the stock powertrain with a Boeing T50 engine, which was used in various versions for helicopters. For this reason, the Camaro was renamed the Turbinaro. The coupe also features a modified suspension and an aviation-inspired interior. With two days left in the auction, the car, originally produced in 2010, is being offered at just $36,000.
The seller does not specify the output of the new engine, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission with manual control. On average, these engines produced around 300–400 hp. Additional fuel tanks are integrated into the Turbinaro's trunk. The exhaust system features a tip capable of simulating flames. Furthermore, the Turbinaro is equipped with a smoke generator.
Subsequent owners of the coupe continued to modify it. Specifically, the sports car received coilover suspension, a new steering gear, and a lightweight aerodynamic body kit. The interior received new seats and additional instruments, and a ceiling panel with indicators and switches resembling aircraft control panels was installed. The Turbinaro's doors now open in Lamborghini style.
