An Italian woman died under mountains of her parcels from marketplaces
The partner of a 57-year-old Verona woman became concerned when she failed to return to the apartment they shared. Police traced her phone signal and discovered she was in a second apartment, to which she was the only one with a key. Law enforcement officers were unable to open the door for a long time because something was blocking the entrance. It was later discovered that the woman was found buried under boxes and bags from online marketplaces.
The shopping addict had a separate apartment for online ordering.
In Verona, a 57-year-old woman tragically died in her apartment. Her body was found under a pile of hundreds of unopened packages from online marketplaces. Her partner, unable to reach her by phone, called the police. Law enforcement officers had to navigate a long way through the piles of packages blocking the entrance to the woman's second apartment. Inside, they discovered that she had tripped on the threshold, fallen, pulled her belongings with her, and was crushed under them.
The woman suffered from hoarding disorder—she constantly ordered goods but rarely unpacked anything. The apartment was literally crammed with bags and boxes, blocking the passageways. The cause of death was mechanical asphyxia—she suffocated under the weight of her belongings.
