An impressive $1.32 million was paid for a 110-year-old Cyclone motorcycle at auction, setting a world record for the price of a motorcycle at a public auction. The high bid was due to both the rarity of the motorcycle and the brand's image.





In the 1910s, the American company Joerns Motor sold motorcycles under the Cyclone brand. The brand lasted only five years, but during this time, the two-wheelers managed to prove themselves in various races, including dirt track races, which were popular at the time.

The Cyclone was equipped with a two-cylinder V-shaped engine with a volume of 1 liter. It is generally accepted that this is the first overhead cam engine in the history of motorcycles in the USA. The unit developed an impressive 45 horsepower for the beginning of the 20th century and was capable of accelerating the ascetic motorcycle to a speed of more than 100 miles per hour. In 1914, the Cyclone broke the then record for the time to cover one mile, previously held by the Excelsior brand: the motorcycle needed only 35 seconds to cover this distance.

According to some estimates, about 300 "Cyclones" were produced in five years. Very few have survived to this day - according to various estimates, from 6 to 14 copies. The bike on sale has also been meticulously restored by Stephen Wright, a legendary figure in the vintage bike scene, a renowned expert on early 20th century motorcycles and the author of several books on the history of the motorcycle industry.
