The Owner of a Chevrolet Pickup with a Million Miles on the Clock Buys a New One of the Same Model (2 photos)
General Motors' oldest plant reached a significant milestone: it assembled its 16 millionth vehicle. It was a heavy-duty Silverado 2500 HD pickup truck. This truck already had an owner before production was completed, and an equally significant one: Andy Sanford, who upgraded to the new truck from a Silverado HD with a million miles (1.6 million kilometers) on the odometer.
The anniversary pickup, with its blue body, was equipped with a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8. This engine also became a memorable one: it was the 3.5 millionth engine of this type for the company.
Andy Sanford purchased his previous Silverado HD in 2016. After learning his story, company representatives invited him to the plant so he could observe the assembly process of his new pickup and check its quality firsthand.
The General Motors plant in Flint, N.C., has been in operation for nearly 80 years. Currently, it assembles only the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups, but previously, other models were also built at the site, including the Chevrolet Corvette. It was here that GM assembled its 50 millionth and 70 millionth vehicles—the Chevrolet Bel Air and Chevrolet Monte Carlo. ![]()
