Dangerous Games with a Baby Rhinoceros: Jerko Follows the Voice

This video captures a touching and exciting encounter with a baby rhinoceros named Jerko. Despite his young age, this "baby" already displays behavior typical of his species. The video clearly demonstrates how rhinos navigate: due to their poor eyesight, they rely on hearing and are sensitive to voices, making such encounters unforgettable for everyone involved.

Rhinos do have very poor eyesight—they can barely distinguish stationary objects more than 30 meters away. However, this is compensated for by their exceptional hearing and sense of smell. Even young rhinos can run at significant speeds, making them potentially dangerous in close contact. Rhino calves are very attached to their mothers or the people who care for them in sanctuaries, and often follow familiar sounds or voices.
