UGC 2885 is a giant spiral galaxy in the constellation Perseus, located approximately 232 million light-years away.

Its diameter reaches 250,000 light-years, making it approximately 2.5 times larger than the Milky Way.

UGC 2885 is home to over a trillion stars. By comparison, our own galaxy contains between 100 and 400 billion stars.

Despite its size, UGC 2885 appears unusually quiet: there are no bursts of star formation or signs of large-scale collisions. Astronomers have therefore given it the unofficial nickname "The Silent Giant."

It is believed that the galaxy has reached such an impressive size due to the absence of nearby massive competitors. Consequently, over billions of years, it has slowly absorbed gas from intergalactic space and dwarf satellite galaxies, gradually "inflating."

UGC 2885 is one of the largest known spiral galaxies.
