A penguin stole pebbles from a neighbor's house
A Humboldt penguin robbed a fellow penguin at a zoo in Newquay, Cornwall.
The theft was committed by a penguin named Oreo, whom keepers call the most brazen of their kind. A video taken by the zoo's staff captured the moment the bird, taking advantage of a neighbor's absence, entered his house and stole several stones.
According to the keepers, Oreo committed the crime at the beginning of the breeding season to impress a female. "During breeding season, penguins build nests from carefully selected stones. These stones are used to keep the eggs dry and off the ground, so competition for the best stones can be quite fierce," the zoo explained.
Staff explained that Oreo is seven years old, has a stable mate named Humbug, and had a chick last year.
