A CD was heated in a microwave

Using a microwave to heat items not intended for microwave heating is a dangerous undertaking. This is what happens when a regular CD is exposed to microwaves. While the video looks impressive, trying this experiment at home is strongly discouraged.

Under microwave exposure, hundreds of cracks appear across the entire surface in a matter of seconds, the plastic and adhesive melt, and bright metallic sparks fly across the disc from localized microexplosions in the metal layer.
