American film studios demand a ban on Chinese AI (2 photos + 4 videos)
It seems the Western film industry is facing a threat more serious than the writers' strikes. A scandal is brewing in the US: major Hollywood studios and unions have officially demanded that the government impose strict censorship against a new Chinese neural network. 
The Chinese have posted the results of their latest AI test online, and they are frighteningly realistic. These are no longer "floating" faces and strange anatomy, but full-fledged film fragments that are practically indistinguishable from Hollywood blockbusters. 
Giants like Disney, Paramount, and the Motion Picture Association of America have found themselves at the center of the conflict. They accused the developers of the neural network of "egregious copyright infringement," claiming that the AI was trained on their intellectual property without permission. Meanwhile, Hollywood unions are sounding the alarm, claiming that the technology could destroy thousands of jobs by replacing live actors, camera operators, and artists with algorithms.
While American majors have been exploiting old franchises for decades, Chinese developers have made a technological breakthrough. Pre-production videos are striking in their level of detail and lighting. Looking at these shots, one can't help but wonder: why do we even need production budgets of hundreds of millions of dollars if a neural network can produce images of similar quality in a matter of hours?
Hollywood, as expected, hasn't appreciated the technology and is trying to erect legal barriers. However, as history shows, no one has ever succeeded in stopping technological progress with lawsuits and censorship alone. Apparently, the balance of power in global cinema could change radically in the near future, and the "dream factory" will either have to adapt to the new reality or become history.
