Afghanistan's Ministry of Virtue burned 500 musical instruments (2 photos)
The ministry called audio equipment and other devices for producing melodic sound "instruments of moral corruption."
In Afghanistan, employees of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice burned 500 musical instruments confiscated in the central province of Parwan.
According to the head of the department, Maqbul Ahmad Waqas, the burned instruments, "used for dancing and celebrating various ceremonies," were collected by valiant champions of virtue over the past year in the city of Charikar and nearby villages.
Waqas stated that "this action is part of ongoing efforts to combat vice." He also called on Afghans to stop using items that violate Sharia law.
According to the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, 21,328 musical instruments and over 30,000 copies of "immoral films" were burned in Afghanistan last year, while 25,600 IT company employees were fired for distributing "haram" films.
The ministry's report also states that 281 law enforcement officers lost their jobs in 2025 due to the lack of a beard. And this is no joke; back in March 2022, the ministry mandated that all civil servants wear beards.
