A mother and daughter's trip to the picturesque Kanas River in Xinjiang nearly ended in tragedy. The couple found themselves in the icy water.
Other tourists immediately rushed to the shore and, with a combined effort, managed to pull them both to safety.
Experts warn that in winter, mountain rivers are prone to ice floods and sudden water level rises due to shifting ice and snowdrifts. Currents can increase in a matter of minutes, making the riverbank particularly dangerous even when the river appears calm.
