Tesla's "Autopilot" Will Be Available Only by Subscription (1 photo)
As early as February 2026, potential Tesla buyers will no longer be able to purchase the full Autopilot package, which the company calls FSD, or Full Self-Driving. According to CEO Elon Musk, the system will only be available via subscription.
Currently, Tesla electric vehicles can be ordered with the FSD package as an option for $8,000, while the Autopilot subscription costs $99 per month.
It's worth noting that Tesla is far from the only manufacturer offering in-car subscription services. For example, in the US, access to driver assistance systems for a monthly fee can be found in the catalogs of GM, Ford, and Rivian, which price their "assistants" between $50 and $99.
Some brands have also experimented with more unusual paid options, such as a subscription for heated seats at BMW, the ability to reduce the 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) time by one second at Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, and increased power for models in the ID line at Volkswagen.
