This Silverado belongs in the junkyard, but it's still driving on the roads (6 photos)
Indiana doesn't have mandatory vehicle inspections. Authorities abolished them in the late 1980s, relying on the conscientiousness of car owners and wanting to spare them bureaucratic procedures. This lax approach means you'll encounter cars that belong in a junkyard.
But even among them, there are outstanding examples, like this 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. Decades of rough, neglected use have rusted the truck so much that its frame has cracked, its body panels are warped, and it literally falls apart. But it's still running!
It wasn't a good life, of course, since its owner couldn't afford repairs, let alone a new car. Everything goes on bills and medical treatment, and he still has to get to work somehow.
Upon learning of this, compassionate fellow citizens launched a fundraiser. A total of 550 people donated $26,500, and the matter was settled. This money was enough for the man not only to purchase a much newer 2019 Silverado, but also to pay for registration, taxes, and insurance for at least a year.
