Chinese Hachiko
A dog named A Wang waited for a month for his deceased owner at the door of his home in Shanghai.
The dog had been in the care of a single man named Gao for over ten years. The man died on December 11th from a sudden illness. Afterward, the dog sat in the hallway of his apartment for weeks, waiting for his owner. Neighbors brought him water and food, but he refused help and ran away when approached.
The story touched residents and internet users, drawing comparisons to the story of Hachiko, a dog that occurred in Japan in the 1920s. In that story, a dog waited for his owner at a train station for ten years after his death.
At some point, the dog disappeared, causing alarm among residents. Two days later, it was found in the grass on the grounds of an apartment complex. A Wang was handed over to the neighborhood committee, where he gradually began eating. Veterinarians reported that the dog was in a state of severe stress. One of the neighbors expressed a desire to take him in, and the committee supported the idea.
