Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Unimog concept SUV, which could become a production model (11 photos)

Mercedes-Benz Trucks unveiled a Unimog concept vehicle, which claims to address the needs of many customers. The iconic off-road vehicle has been equipped with a powerful diesel engine, and the interior has been made more comfortable. While the production fate of this version has not yet been officially decided, several hints from the company suggest that mass production is not entirely out of the question.





The concept is based on the production version of the Unimog U 4023. It is factory-equipped with a 5.1-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 231 hp and 900 Nm. However, the standard engine was replaced with a much larger 7.7-liter unit, producing 300 horsepower. The transmission, with selectable all-wheel drive and interwheel locks, was redesigned to accommodate the new characteristics. The concept also features final drives.

The four-seater Unimog interior is trimmed in luxurious leather, equipped with new floor mats and LED lighting. On the outside, the concept features a car-specific paint finish, 20-inch wheels with beadlocks, and a MirrorCam camera system in place of conventional mirrors. Furthermore, more modern lighting technology has been added.

The creators of the SUV officially announced that a customer will test the concept in real-world conditions during 2026, and based on the results of this testing, development of the especially comfortable Unimog may be continued. According to the company, the introduction of a modification more suited to long-distance travel than to tackling tough off-road conditions could boost sales of this line.
