In Sambalpur district, Odisha, approximately 8,000 people gathered for the entrance exam for the Home Guard Forces, where only 187 spots were available. The minimum requirement was completion of fifth grade, but candidates included university graduates and master's degree holders. Due to the large number of applicants, the exam on December 16 was held directly on the runway of the Jamadarpally airfield.
The situation clearly highlighted the difficulties educated young people face in finding stable employment.
