Hummingbird - the smallest self-defense pistol in the world (7 photos)
At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, small firearms for self-defense were in great demand among wealthy categories of the population and the middle class of European countries. Among the wide variety of miniature pistols of that time, the Hummingbird pistol designed by Franz Pfannl should be highlighted. The total length of the firearm is only 7 mm, and its weight without ammunition is 220 grams. It is this unique self-defense weapon, which is one of the smallest pistols in the world, that will be discussed below.
This tiny weapon was based on the 4.5mm Erika pistol and came in two versions: 2.7mm and 3mm. Small-scale production of the Calibri pistol began in 1913 and continued until 1920, when it was replaced by a larger caliber version.
The pistol had a magazine for 5 rounds, and the initial bullet speed was 150 m/s. In total, about 1,000 Hummingbird pistols were produced, which are now of interest among weapon collectors. At auctions, the cost of this particular weapon reaches up to 4 thousand dollars.
