A True Miracle! Two Rare White Lion Cubs Were Born in Venezuela (6 photos)
A Venezuelan zoo is celebrating the birth of two white lion cubs. The rare animals were born on November 26 at the Maracay Delicias Zoo and are currently under veterinary care. Zoo staff announced a contest and invited local residents to name the cubs.
The male will remain with his mother, while the female will be isolated and bottle-fed.
Zoo Director Vanesa Rodriguez is taking photographs and videos to document the cubs' growth. She plans to share the footage through official channels.
This is the second litter since 2023, when three white lion cubs were born in Venezuela for the first time.
Governor Joana Sanchez announced that residents will be able to see the cubs in the coming days.
White lions are not albinos, but a genetic rarity found only in South Africa.
The color is caused by a recessive gene similar to the one responsible for blue eyes in humans.
Today, there are approximately 200 white lions in the world, but only about ten remain in the wild, in their endemic habitat.
