The "Children of the Griffin" are participants in a land use demonstration project in western Alabama, near Greensboro. They are all believed to be third- or fourth-generation descendants of a union between a white woman and an African-American man. Most of them are light-skinned and therefore reject life in black communities, but white society does not accept them either.
