Four fishermen have been found alive after disappearing off the coast of Florida. The family members, ranging in age from 18 to 90, set out on Monday, November 24, at 9:30 a.m. in their 25-foot boat. They planned to return home by 4:00 p.m., but they never did.
Their families reported them missing at 8:30 p.m., prompting a joint Coast Guard and Clearwater Police operation.
Rescuers found the group around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25. Almost 24 hours had passed since the disappearance. The men were clinging to the capsized vessel 42 kilometers from shore.
Police identified the men as 70-year-old Dennis Woods, 90-year-old Clarence Woods, 42-year-old Chris Harding Sr., and 18-year-old Chris Harding Jr., all of Mulberry, Florida, in Polk County.
Their car and trailer were found at the Seminole Street boat launch, but the boat was nowhere to be found. This prompted police to deploy a helicopter and then an airplane to continue the search.
A Clearwater police spokesperson reported, "The Coast Guard found four men in the capsized vessel. All were taken to Morton Plant Hospital for medical treatment."
