Pottery is a hobby that costs a pretty penny to get started with. Connor Crates set out to prove that you can take up clay modeling without spending a dollar.

The first step is finding clay. It's quite plentiful near rivers, but you can't simply mold anything from the raw mass. To make the right clay, Connor mixed it with water, placed it in a cotton bag, and let it sit in the sun for three weeks.

The second step was creating household items. Using available materials, you can create patterns, and by combining circles of "sausages," you can create an entire pot.

The third and final step is baking. This method has been used since ancient times. It involves heating the clay in three stages: first over a fire, then in coals, and finally in a fire. Because the product's temperature increases gradually, the chance of cracking is very low.
