Finnish saunas and other facilities will be heated by heat from data centers powered by artificial intelligence.
In Finland, owners of large data centers are partnering with utilities to channel heat from servers into the city's heating system.
Typically, tens of thousands of servers are cooled with air or water, which is heated and then released outside. But the Finns have decided not to release the heat, but to redirect it into pipes to heat buildings.
For example, Helen Ltd. has already built a system in Helsinki that draws a huge amount of hot water from an underground data center, raises its temperature, and distributes it throughout the city.
This has significantly reduced heating costs, reduced the load on power plants, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
