An 18-karat gold "America" toilet sold at auction in the United States for over $12 million. The toilet was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, the same artist behind the $6 million banana that was first taped to the wall and then eaten several times.
The toilet was auctioned at Sotheby's, which announced the sale results.
"The lot sold for $12,110,000," according to the Sotheby's website.
Only two such toilets were made, one of which was stolen in September 2019 from the palace where Winston Churchill was born. The toilet was on display at the time as part of an art exhibition, but was also available for visitors to use.
