It's not always that props from a movie that many people have seen end up in a landfill. For example, at a recent Heritage Auctions auction, the door on which the main character escaped was sold for 718 thousand dollars (with a starting price of 40 thousand). In addition, at the same auction they sold such things as Rose's dress from Titanic ($118 thousand), a whip from the action movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ($525 thousand), an ax from The Shining ($125 thousand), and a symbiote costume from "Spider-Man 3" (125 thousand).
