Chinese man turns old factory into school and free orphanage
Huang Meisheng, 65, founded De Ren Garden in 2008 in Jiangxi Province to help orphans and children whose parents cannot care for them
He noticed that many of his students were orphans or children from disadvantaged families. Inspired by this, he decided to open a place where children could live, study, and be cared for.
The orphanage was set up in an old factory building with government subsidies and Huang’s personal savings. Some of the children continue to attend regular schools, and Huang and his team help them as parents.
Over the past 17 years, 348 children have grown up here, 76 of whom have entered university. There are now 57 children living in the orphanage, and some former residents return as volunteers. Huang says the main thing is to teach children to love and appreciate life.
