In the mountains of Jaén province, scientists have identified a unique lynx with leucism, a genetic disorder that causes the fur to lose pigment but the eyes to retain their natural color.
Unlike albinism, leucism does not affect vision or cause a complete loss of melanin, so the animal appears faded but not completely white. Common Iberian lynxes have thick, reddish-spotted fur that helps them blend into the landscape, and this light coloration makes this individual unique and particularly noticeable in the wild. Scientists believe that the appearance of this animal may be due to a rare mutation that arose due to the limited population size.
