Italian woman dies after liposuction in Turkey (5 photos)
Milena Mancini died on October 20 in the intensive care unit of Istanbul's ISÜ Medical Park Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital. The 50-year-old Italian businesswoman developed complications following abdominal liposuction.
In September, Mancini flew to Istanbul with her daughter. Thirty-six hours after the surgery, she began experiencing severe abdominal pain. According to preliminary reports, her intestines were perforated during the procedure.
Her uncle, Luigi Di Palma, told Italian media: "Milena developed complications during the operation; it appears she contracted an infection at the clinic."
Relatives only learned of this after she was admitted to intensive care. Some of them urgently flew to Turkey to be with her.
Luigi shared: "We knew nothing—we had no idea that Milena had gone to Turkey for this procedure. It was a real shock for us. She and her husband didn't want us to worry."
The autopsy will be performed in Italy.
Milena, from Isola del Liri, southeast of Rome, took over a real estate agency after several years as a financial consultant.
Her company opened a new branch in Frosinone a few weeks before the ill-fated trip.
She is survived by her husband Umberto, daughters Alice and Giuditta, father Alvaro, and sisters Rita and Sara.
Luigi described her as a determined and talented woman, as well as a warm and cheerful person who found it easy to get along with everyone. ![]()
