Brazilian authorities are searching for a daredevil who jumped from the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue. The man illegally accessed the monument and paraglided from a height of 38 meters.
Tour guide David Moreira Figueiredo told reporters: "My group arrived at the Christ the Redeemer statue. A security guard reported that someone had climbed onto the monument's arm. I immediately launched a drone to film the incident. At first, we thought it was an official shoot, perhaps a promotional video. But when they saw the commotion at the entrance, it became clear: someone had entered without permission."
Police arrived at the scene, but the mysterious man was already hovering over the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.
Investigators reported that two people committed the crime, and a search is underway.
"Military police were called in because the site is a protected cultural heritage site. The Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro reported a crime against cultural property," authorities said.
David wrote on social media: "The line between courage and danger is razor-thin."
