Mercedes-Benz announced the completion of road testing of an EQS prototype equipped with an experimental solid-state battery. On a single charge, it traveled 1,205 kilometers, passing through three European countries. The company expects to begin mass production of these batteries by the end of the decade.

Starting in Stuttgart, Germany, the Mercedes-Benz EQS prototype traveled through Denmark and finished in Malmö, Sweden. It is worth noting that the battery was not completely depleted at the end of the journey: the on-board computer showed 137 kilometers of remaining range. The EQS surpassed the record previously set by the Vision EQXX concept between Stuttgart and Silverstone by three kilometers.

The trip was part of a program to test new energy storage technologies under real-world operating conditions. Mercedes-Benz also stated that it had calculated the optimal route for the prototype, taking into account traffic congestion, terrain, and climate conditions.

Mercedes-Benz is developing solid-state lithium-metal batteries with the participation of engineers from its Formula 1 technology center, AMG High Performance Powertrains, and its American partner, Factorial Energy. The new technologies increase the efficiency of the traction battery by 25% while maintaining the same dimensions as standard EQS batteries.
