As is traditional in Paris, the celebrations begin at the Sri Manicka Vinayakar Alayam temple, the source of faith for hundreds of thousands of Parisians. Then a procession with a chariot and a statue of Ganesh, hoops of peacock feathers and pots of burning camphor passed through the streets of the capital.
From time to time, the "tied up" residents of France stopped and beat coconuts on the pavement.
Ganesh is a god with an elephant head, the son of the deities Shiva and Parvati.
