800 km on foot: a father from China tested his children's strength during a hike (3 photos)

A man from southern China has surprised social media users by setting off on a grueling 800-kilometer hike with his 8-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.





The man admitted that during the hike he encouraged the children by telling them they were stronger than him, and as a result, only he developed blisters while the children escaped injury, SCMP reports.

On July 17, a man surnamed Wu set off from the Bao'an district of Shenzhen with his daughter and son. After a month (31 days), they completed the journey in Changsha, Hunan Province. Each day, the family walked at least 23 kilometers. The father carried a 10 kg backpack, and the children each carried 5 kg.

"I wanted to strengthen their minds and instill perseverance. My children tend to give up when faced with difficulties, and I wanted them to learn to finish what they started," Wu explained.

According to him, during the hike, he encouraged the children by telling them that they were "stronger than their father." As a result, he admitted, he developed blisters on his feet, while the children escaped without injury.



The traveler's wife, surnamed Wang, was initially against the idea, fearing the heat and risks. However, in the end, it was she who met the family at Changsha South Station on the night of August 17.

"I think the hike has changed the children. My daughter has become less picky, and my son has become more independent. I hope this will be good for them," she said.
