A robot tattoo artist with artificial intelligence (7 photos + 2 videos)
A US startup has shown a robot that can do tattoos. The robot applies designs with almost jeweler's precision: each "touch" is a dot 250 microns in size.
At the Bang Bang tattoo studio in New York, the AERO robot from the Texas startup Blackdot has started working alongside people.
The robot applies designs with dots only 250 microns in size — no bigger than a grain of sand. AERO films the process with a microscope, and AI monitors the result. As a result, precision is achieved that is impossible for a human artist.
When creating a design, the built-in laser measures the thickness of the skin so that the needle pierces only the surface layer, avoiding nerve endings - so the client feels virtually no pain.
The tattoo community was skeptical about the innovation. Some artists consider this a replacement for creativity with soulless factory production. In addition, the robot will not consult the client, will not be able to take into account the peculiarities of the skin and works only on flat surfaces of the arms and legs.
"We are not trying to displace tattoo artists," says Blackdot founder Joel Pennington. He compares the robot to a printing press: once upon a time, people thought that books should only be written by hand.

According to Pennington, the company's goal is to allow tattoo artists to add subtle text and patterns to their work, as well as make the process more comfortable for those who are put off by the pain of the procedure.
