Sleeps to the singing of birds: in China, a programmer lives in a car and sings karaoke at night
An electric car has become a home for a 38-year-old programmer named Yin. The man rented an apartment in Beijing for $350 a month, and now lives in the forest and enjoys nature.
He usually leaves Tianjin at 5:30 a.m. on Mondays and drives 130 km along the highway to work in Beijing. He returns home after lunch.
Yin has been living like this for almost three years. His spacious electric car has become his home, and before that, he rented an apartment in Beijing for $350 a month.
His wife and two sons live in Tianjin. Yin says he has to work in Beijing because of the limited number of vacancies for programmers in Tianjin.
"If the car is spacious and there are charging stations, the feeling of living in it is no worse than in a hotel," he says.
In the summer, he showers every day from a water tank in his car, and in the colder months, he takes the train home on Wednesday evenings and returns to Beijing on Thursday mornings to wash.
Living in his car, he says, cuts costs considerably. The monthly expressway toll is $55, and the electricity bill for charging the car is less than $40 a month.
"Isn't it relaxing for the car to sleep while listening to birds singing and a gentle stream? I don't care what others think, I am committed to my lifestyle," he added.
