A Briton didn't pay his rent for 7 years, leaving behind 3,000 beer cans (5 photos)
In England, after seven years of no communication and ignoring the terms of the lease, a man left a two-bedroom flat in a terrible state, filling it with thousands of empty beer cans and rubbish.
The landlords, 58-year-old Sandra Considine and her 70-year-old husband Chris, rented the flat to an acquaintance in 2018 for just £30 a week, hoping to help a man on the brink of homelessness. However, just a few weeks after moving in, the tenant stopped answering calls and then blocked access to the property completely.
The couple were only able to return to the flat in June 2025, when the tenant suddenly vacated the premises without warning. What they found was a “total disaster”: more than 3,000 empty beer cans filled with liquids including urine, bags of human waste and piles of takeaway boxes. The cans were neatly stacked above the furniture in every room.
The damage included carpets, walls, furniture, kitchen appliances and bathroom fittings, with the total cost running into the thousands of pounds. Chris, who suffers from an incurable disease and was forced to leave his job, said the state of the premises was simply unimaginable:
"It was inhumane to live there. Even moving around there was dangerous - any movement could cause the can to fall and spill," the man said.
Sandra added that she felt sympathy for her friend when she decided to rent out the property. According to her, he was living in a tent at the time and needed help. The couple hoped that he would move into the apartment temporarily, help with repairs and pay a modest rent.
However, these plans never came to fruition. The man paid only once, and then began to avoid communication, hiding behind the knowledge of his rights. According to Sandra, the situation left her very emotionally exhausted:
“I never thought I would find myself in this situation. We tried to be kind, but in the end we feel used and deceived,” the woman added.
