Powerful flooding in China (1 photo + 2 videos)
Southern China has seen massive flooding after heavy rainfall. Rivers have burst their banks and flooded parking lots, streets and shopping malls.
In China's Guizhou Province, rivers that burst their banks and landslides have forced the evacuation of millions of residents. Torrential monsoon rains have caused destruction of infrastructure and flooding of a shopping mall and streets.
In the southwestern Chinese province of Guizhou, massive flooding has occurred after heavy rainfall. Footage of the cataclysm is being actively shared on social media.
The video shows cars being carried away into underground parking lots, and streams of water are flowing down escalators in the largest shopping center in Rongjiang. The disaster also led to the destruction of infrastructure: on one of the highways, a landslide caused the entrance section of the Houzhihe Bridge on the G76 highway in Sandu County to collapse. As a result, the driver of the truck was left hanging on part of the collapsed bridge. The man was quickly rescued, and there is no information about casualties or deaths.
Other sections of the road were blocked or destroyed. Many vehicles were underwater after several rivers burst their banks, flooding most of the city.
At the moment, millions of people are being evacuated from the most affected areas. Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to seek shelter on higher ground above the flood level.
Since last week, heavy rains have been battering the mountainous province of Guizhou and other parts of southern China, driven by the annual East Asian monsoon. It has already broken rainfall records in some parts of China, with more than 400 millimetres (16.5 in) of rain.
