A lion tries a salad for the first time
A tourist in Tanzania captured a python that recently swallowed an adult impala.
A group of tourists in Tanzania came across a python digesting a particularly large prey item.
Guide Amos Elizante Kimaro spotted the African rock python in the Serengeti National Park. It was slowly crawling along the ground after swallowing an adult impala. “Eat too much ice cream,” one of the tourists joked about the huge snake.
Kimaro explained that African rock pythons are able to open their jaws enough to comfortably eat prey much larger than themselves. They can then go for weeks or even months without eating.
African rock pythons are large, non-venomous snakes found in sub-Saharan Africa. Their body length can exceed six meters, and their weight can reach almost 100 kilograms. They hunt mammals and birds, and their patterned skin provides excellent camouflage among rocks and trees.
