In South Africa, the second week of winter is now underway and forecasters are already noting that such an abundance of snow in this region is clearly abnormal.

Global warming is raging fiercely in South Africa. The bad weather has caused large-scale destruction.

Local media write that in one of the provinces of South Africa, a school bus with children inside was washed away by a flood. Six high school students died.

Snow is also seen in Lesotho. The bad weather has left hundreds of cars stuck in traffic jams across South Africa.

Eastern Cape Prime Minister Oscar Mabuyane said on Wednesday that the death toll provided by police is expected to rise as authorities continue to search for missing people.

Heavy

snowfall, rain and gale-force winds

have left almost 500,000 homes without power since Tuesday, and state electricity provider Eskom says efforts are underway to restore connections.

Snowfalls also hit parts of New Zealand, including some that had not seen snow this century.
