16 pairs of actors whose height in everyday life differs from what is shown in films (16 photos)

In cinema, the overwhelming majority of actresses are petite, because actresses who are too tall are not in great demand.

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson – Twilight

However, the paradox is that the actors, in turn, can boast of being tall. This creates certain problems in romantic films, when couples of an actor and actress look strange, because the latter is one and a half to two heads shorter than her colleague. And in such cases, the actresses have to either stand on special platforms or wear heels to get the look they did in the Twilight series.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny – “The X-Files”

Exactly the same situation happened to Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, who starred in the series “The X-Files”. They played colleagues, each of whom had their own vision of the situation, and in order for Gillian’s character to be taken seriously, she wore high heels and literally stood on boxes. Gillian once completely forgot about the latter when she was filming a scene and took a step into the void.

Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence – The Hunger Games

A slightly different case happened in The Hunger Games. Despite the fact that such relatively tall actors as Alexander Ludwig and Lucas Till were considered for the role of Peeta, Josh Hutcherson, who is about 165 centimeters tall, was ultimately chosen. And Jennifer Lawrence, who is about 10 centimeters taller than him, was chosen as his partner. The Hunger Games was often saved by the fact that the main characters were constantly moving, and it was problematic to notice the difference in their heights, but when the action ended and they appeared in full height, the difference immediately seemed noticeable.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson - Harry Potter

It is very difficult to predict how tall a child will eventually become. However, Chris Columbus was least worried about this when casting the trio in Harry Potter, especially in the case of Harry Potter, whom he could not find for many months. For Chris, it was more important whether there was chemistry between the actors and whether they could act. Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe dispelled any doubts Columbus had, but a few years later it became clear that height was still something to consider, because the next directors had to do different things to make Harry look on the same level as Hermione and Ron in all scenes.

Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow – Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. could never boast of being tall, although this did not prevent him from making a huge career in cinema and becoming one of the main Hollywood stars. But no matter how good he was, the height difference often had to be compensated for. This was the case in many films, especially in Iron Man, because Downey Jr. was paired with Gwyneth Paltrow, who is quite tall and wears heels. But in Iron Man, it was impossible to show that Robert was shorter than Gwyneth, because Tony Stark was her protector and the dominant one in the pair. So in many scenes, Paltrow simply had to give up heels, while Downey Jr. wore high platform shoes, and in some scenes, the actress went barefoot, and the sound of the heels was later added in post-production.

Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson – Fast and Furious

Despite the fact that Vin Diesel is one of the most brutal actors in Hollywood, he has a slight complex associated with his height. In everyday life, Vin often wears high-soled shoes, and he uses the same in his films. The most striking example is his performance with Dwayne Johnson, against which Diesel could not show himself to be short, because Dwayne and Vin had a very difficult relationship, and once The Rock even had to leave the film franchise because he could no longer work with Diesel. However, he later returned. Interestingly, in one of the films in the series, Vin didn't even have to wear his signature shoes, because due to their differences, he and Johnson were filmed separately, and the special effects specialists combined their separate shots into one and specially made Diesel a little taller.

Michael Clarke Duncan and Tom Hanks - "The Green Mile"

Few people know, but the role of John Coffey went to Michael Clarke Duncan thanks to Bruce Willis. When they were filming Armageddon together, Bruce noticed that Michael was avoiding him. One day, he got tired of it and interrogated him, during which Duncan said that he did it on purpose because someone told him that Bruce was a very bad person who could ruin the career of another actor if he looked at him the wrong way. Willis immediately dispelled all of Michael's fears, and soon advised Frank Darabont to cast him as John Coffey. Duncan was the perfect candidate, except that Frank was initially looking for a white actor. However, Michael's charisma, height, and acting made Darabont realize that there was no need to look for anyone else. It is noteworthy that, although Michael was as close to the height of the book John Coffey as possible, the entire interior was changed for his sake, so that he seemed even taller: all the objects in his cell, including the bed, were much smaller than the others. However, despite Duncan's height, Frank Darabont had to use forced perspective, special shoes, and platforms, because both Tom Hanks and David Morse were far from short - David was only a couple of centimeters shorter than Michael and in some moments could seem taller than Duncan.

Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans – Captain America: The Winter Soldier

After Steve Rogers went through his transformation, he became much taller. However, this was Chris Evans' normal height. The thing is that the weaker version of Steve was played by another actor with Evans' face superimposed on him. And despite the fact that Rogers became a super soldier, they decided not to elevate him too much above Natasha Romanoff in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so in some scenes Scarlett Johansson wore high shoes.

Tom Hardy and Christian Bale – The Dark Knight Rises

Tom Hardy is only 175 centimeters tall, but in The Dark Knight Rises he took on the role of Bane, who is very huge in the comics and even taller than Batman himself. However, Christian Bale, on the contrary, is taller than Tom Hardy, so filming the Bronson star was much more difficult, because in difficult fight scenes he was filmed not in comfortable shoes, but in ones that raised him almost 8 centimeters.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth – "The Last Song"

Another example of a romantic film acting duo that needed to level out the height difference as much as possible is Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus. In real life, such a couple looks quite organic, and this was confirmed even by Liam and Miley themselves, who began dating right during filming and got married after a while. However, Liam is so much taller that it was simply inconvenient to film, because they could not be placed in the center of the frame, because Liam's head would be at the top, and Miley's at the bottom.

Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake – "In Time"

While Miley Cyrus had no problem wearing heels in "The Last Song" due to the calm and measured narrative, Amanda Seyfried faced problems because she was filming a real action movie in which she had to run a lot. And Amanda did not take off these heels even during the running scenes.

Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson – Water for Elephants

In 2004, Robert Pattinson starred in Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon. However, no one noticed him because absolutely all of his scenes were cut. A few years later, when Robert became a world star, he worked with Reese again, but as the lead actor. Because they had a lot of scenes together, and Witherspoon is quite petite, she wore heels, and Robert bent his knees a little.

Penn Badgley and Blake Lively – Gossip Girl

In the series Gossip Girl, Penn Badgley and Blake Lively played a romantic couple, but they faced an unusual situation – the actress was several centimeters taller than her colleague. The creators of the series, however, were not at all embarrassed by this, and they did everything to hide it. Interestingly, this did not become an obstacle for the actors themselves, who after the start of filming became so imbued with their on-screen relationship that they even began dating in real life.

James McAvoy and Anne Hathaway – "Jane Austen"
