Porsche presented a one-of-a-kind hypercar 963 RSP for public roads (10 photos)
In essence, this is a Le Mans 963 rebuilt for road use. The project is timed to coincide with the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 917, which was born in a similar way.
The abbreviation in the name of the new car refers to the first and last name of Roger Penske, a long-time partner of Porsche, a former racer and the head of the Team Penske team, which competes in endurance racing on Porsche cars. Penske is officially named as the customer for the creation of the unique supercar, although its concept was developed with the participation of the North American branch of the company.
The Porsche 963 RSP is largely identical to the Le Mans car in terms of chassis. The power plant remains the same - it is a hybrid based on a 4.6-liter V8 with a total capacity of about 680 horsepower. However, the control electronics have been reconfigured for a smoother power delivery, and the internal combustion engine has been adapted to run on civilian fuel. The chassis uses the softest settings for adaptive shock absorbers, and the ground clearance has been increased to the maximum possible value.
The body has been redesigned more significantly: for example, the aerodynamic plumage, wheel arches, and the like have been changed. Like the racing car, it is made of carbon and Kevlar, but while Porsche covers its track cars with film, it was decided to paint the civilian one. The color is the same as on the Porsche 917 half a century ago. A horn, different lighting equipment and registration plate attachment points appeared. They were issued with the active assistance of the organizers of the "24 Hours of Le Mans" and with special permission from the French authorities.
The cockpit has been noticeably changed, where a relatively comfortable all-carbon seat and air conditioning have been installed. Most of the surfaces are covered with leather and Alcantara, it is possible to install a removable cup holder.
The first "live" show of the Porsche 963 RSP will take place as part of the race on the Sarthe circuit. After that, the supercar will be exhibited at the "Festival of Speed" in Goodwood, and then will be demonstrated at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. When the unique car will be handed over to the customer is not specified.
