Indian man loses his wife during a poker game with friends (6 photos)
And yes, this is a true story that even made headlines around the world.
One Indian man, carried away by a game of poker with friends, reached such despair (or madness?) that he bet… his own wife. And lost.

Who is this hero of our story today?
A 36-year-old man named Rahisu, according to locals, had a long-standing and persistent addiction to gambling and alcohol. Family life with his wife, with whom he lived together for more than 10 years and had no children, gradually turned into a nightmare: constant quarrels and frequent binges.
All these years, the man worked as a rickshaw puller, worked part-time as a builder, and also tried to save money to move with his wife to a good house, where he could have children and improve the quality of his life.
However, due to the fact that by the age of 36, the man's life had not worked out, he began to drink a lot and squander his earnings on gambling, trying to hit the jackpot and change his life.
Of course, because of this, his relationship with his wife became more and more belligerent with each new day. The woman constantly "nagged" her husband that he was a complete loser, losing money, drinking and did not want to find a new job.
However, no one could imagine to what depths this man could sink.
One evening, during another card game with "friends", Rahis lost all the money he had.
But the man did not stop there.
Having fallen into madness, he put his wife on the line. And lost.
What happened next?
After the loss, on his initiative, the winning friends received the "winnings" - a woman. Rakhisu allegedly allowed his friends to drag his wife out of their apartment, take her to their place and rape her.
Moreover, Rakhisu told his friends that he had nothing against it, since he kept his word after losing.
The next day, after a long period of terror, the woman managed to escape from the ill-fated apartment of the kidnappers and get to her relatives.
But even there, a nightmare awaited her.
That same evening, Rakhisu came for her with apologies. He cried, swore that he had realized everything, asked for forgiveness and begged her to come home. The woman, not suspecting that the nightmare was just beginning, agreed.
According to Daily Star news sources, on the way home, the man stopped the car again at his friends' apartment and (threatening) to pour acid on his wife, allowed his "friends" to repeat everything they had done to her earlier. The second time. In cold blood. Without a trace of remorse.
A couple of hours later, the friends told Rahees that he no longer owed them anything and that he and his wife could return home.
However, this time the wife did not forgive her husband, but went to a social activist named Deepak Singh, who promised to help her put her offenders in jail and prosecute them. The activist took the woman to the police station and reported the horrors she had experienced.
How did the authorities react?
Surprisingly, the police initially refused to register the victim's complaint. Only after the information was publicly disclosed online was the case officially taken up.
Additional Superintendent of Police M. P. Singh called the incident "shocking" and promised to conduct a full investigation and punish the culprits. However, at the time of publication, both men were on the run.
Police officials have launched a search warrant for Raheesa and his accomplice, known as Feroz, as well as all the other friends who participated in the poker game.
Soon, police released information that the woman's husband had been arrested the following evening. Courts suggest that the man could face a prison sentence of between seven years and life (but "life" is usually around 20 years in Indian practice, after which the offender is often released).
