In Los Angeles, there are special screenings of The Matrix using a huge curved screen. Additional animation is also used to create an immersive effect. Tickets for the film start at $30. 
Los Angeles is hosting unusual screenings of the cult film The Matrix — it can be seen in an expanded format on a huge curved screen in the immersive space Cosm. This place is often compared to the Sphere arena in Las Vegas: an 87-foot (about 26.5 meters) LED display completely covers the audience, creating a sense of presence.
The screenings are held in a format that Cosm calls shared reality. Around the original 1999 picture, specially created CGI animations are displayed: cityscapes, labyrinths of office cubicles and giant glowing pills from that very scene. All this does not replace the main film, but only frames it, enhancing its emotional and visual accents.
The organizers emphasize: the goal is not to distract attention from the film, but to enhance the perception. According to Jay Rinsky, founder of the creative agency Little Cinema, “the film is the soloist, and we are the accompaniment.”
That is why key moments, like Neo waking up in the capsule or the helicopter flight, are accompanied by effects that expand the space, but do not repeat the frame.
This is the first full-length film in the history of the platform. Previously, Cosm focused on sports broadcasts and short original content. However, The Matrix was ideal for the experiment due to its theme of duality of reality.
The CGI accompaniment to the film was developed since August 2024, and the main work began in January.
Future projects have not yet been announced, but Rinsky has already expressed interest in films of various genres - from horror to comedy.
In the long term, the Cosm team hopes that directors will start making films specifically for this format.
