At first glance, Bitsy looks like an ordinary cat - cute and curious. But on closer inspection, it turns out that she is truly unique. She was born with six legs and a double pelvis.
When rescuers first saw the stray cat, they were amazed. Bitsy stood out not only for her appearance, but also for her love, personality, and quiet determination.
Bitsy is a cat with a rare disease
In her mother's womb, she merged with another fetus. This affected her development: she got two extra legs and a second pelvis
The extra limbs were causing discomfort to the animal, but the team "Furget Me Not Animal Rescue" from Edmonton, Alberta came to the rescue
At the Windermere clinic, veterinarians took x-rays of Bitsy. They decided that the surgery would help her feel better
The cat underwent a complex operation to remove extra limbs and pelvis
A few days after the surgery, she was able to move around on her own
After the surgery, Bitsy was on strong painkillers and sedatives, which made even such basic tasks as eating and using the toilet difficult for her. But she proved herself to be a real fighter and within a day she was doing just fine without help. "Thanks to the care of her foster mom, Bitsy recovered quickly. Within a few days, she was eating, purring, and acting like a normal cat,” said rescuers from Furget Me Not Animal Rescue.
“She’s a completely different cat now!”
The pain is gone, and now the cat’s eyes are shining with happiness.
“She’s become incredibly social, friendly, and adventurous. She now explores the house and interacts with other pets. The days of hiding from every noise are behind her. We love watching her grow into a confident and curious cat.”
"Bitsy has found her home and is really doing well"
After the complicated surgery, vets are continuing to closely monitor the cat's condition. But the good news is that her stitches have already been removed. Furget Me Not Animal Rescue is hopeful that she will make a full recovery in the coming weeks.
