A former flight attendant faces up to 25 years in prison for drug smuggling (5 photos)
Charlotte May Lee, 21, was arrested at a Sri Lanka airport after arriving from Thailand. The British woman's two suitcases were found to contain 46kg of kush - a mixture of drugs, chemicals and human bone powder. 
The former Tui flight attendant flew from Surrey, UK, to Thailand two weeks ago, where she had a date with a man.
A family friend said: "We are very worried. She has been arrested and left to rot in a prison cell. She is very scared." 
Lee is accused of smuggling a synthetic drug worth £1.2m and could face 20-25 years in prison.
Kush is 25 times more potent than the opioid fentanyl and is often laced with toxic chemicals. It first appeared in Sierra Leone about four years ago and there is no official death toll yet. 
The number of patients admitted to the hospital for kush increased by almost 4,000 percent between 2020 and 2023, reaching 1,865, according to the Sierra Leone Psychiatric Hospital. 
Lee's story is reminiscent of that of 18-year-old British woman Bella Callie. She was arrested in Georgia last week for possession of about 12 kilograms of marijuana and more than two kilograms of hashish.
William Calley, the defendant's 80-year-old grandfather, said: "She went to the Philippines to see a guy she had been dating for a few years."
"She said, 'I'm going alone, but I'm going to meet Ross there.' Or Russ, I don't know his name. He was working for his dad's company or something. Now I'm not sure if that's true." 
The girl spent three weeks in the Philippines and then went to Thailand, after which contact with her was lost. Relatives began looking for Bella, and only last week learned of her arrest in Tbilisi.
