Narco-submarine: An electric submarine capable of transporting 400 kg of drugs was discovered in Colombia (5 photos + 1 video)
The Colombian army has captured an electric “narco-submarine” worth about one and a half million dollars.
Troops discovered the submarine in the river during an operation in the Choco department, near the northwestern border with Panama.
It is believed that the submarine, 9 meters long and 4.5 meters wide, would have been used to transport cocaine to Central America.
It took unknown shipbuilders about 5 months to create a submarine from sheet metal. With electric motors powered by more than 100 batteries, it would be incredibly difficult to detect.
The submarine also featured an underwater camera that assisted the crew during drug smuggling voyages.
Authorities believe the ship's owner is the rebel group National Liberation Army, which is currently negotiating a peace deal with the Colombian government.
