Authorities in the Mexican state of Zacatecas have launched a criminal investigation into the fire and fall of a hot air balloon during a public event.
A hot air balloon flight at a public event in Mexico ended tragically. During a hot air balloon festival in the municipality of Enrique Estrada, one of the balloons caught fire. There were three people on board. One of them died, two received burns and were hospitalized.
The footage that appeared on social media shows the flaming balloon rapidly losing altitude. One of the passengers tried to hold on to the basket, but ended up falling. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Authorities in Zacatecas have already launched an investigation. Officials have called on local municipalities to tighten controls when organizing such events. This is not the first incident involving hot air balloons in Mexico in recent times. In January, two tourists were injured when a hot air balloon was forced to land after being blown away by the wind.
