In the heart of Malaysia, in a city whose name translates as "Cat City", there is a unique museum, where 4000 exhibits are dedicated to one of the most mysterious and beloved creatures - cats.

This is not just a collection of figurines and paintings, but a real temple of cat culture.

From idea to implementation: how Kuching became the cat capital

The idea to create a museum was born in the minds of the Chief Minister of Sarawak - Pehin Sri Hijah Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife. They saw Kuching not just as a city, but as a symbol of the cat world. The first collections migrated from the National Museum of Kuala Lumpur, and in 1988 they were first shown to the public. Later, in 1992, the exhibition found a permanent home - in the building of the Northern Kuching City Hall.

Where can I find the museum, and what is inside?

The museum is nestled on Siol Hill, 60 metres above sea level. It offers stunning views of the city, as if guardian cats were watching over it from above.

Inside, there are 4 spacious galleries and over 4,000 exhibits, including paintings with cat motifs, rare artefacts from different eras, souvenirs and memorabilia collected from all over the world.

The museum is divided into several galleries with different themes of exhibits:
