A Dog Testified at a US Senate Session
Senator Jim Justice's English Bulldog attended a Senate Committee meeting on energy issues.
During the committee meeting, Justice decided to let his dog, Babydog, speak. He sat her on his lap and moved the microphone closer to her. While Babydog was breathing loudly and licking her lips, the senator said that she performs a very important function - she humanizes people around her and gives them smiles. Justice and Babydog's speech was captured on video.
According to Justice, he never planned to get a bulldog. Babydog came to him by chance and fell in love with him, as he did with her. "Whether you're rich or poor, whether you're a child or an adult, or, God forbid, a Republican or a Democrat, she still loves you," the senator explained. After this speech, Committee Chairman Mike Lee said that the bulldog's testimony would be included in the meeting minutes.
This isn't the first time five-year-old Babydog has appeared at political events. She rose to fame after appearing at the 2024 Republican National Convention. Since then, she's had her own social media accounts. Justice even jokingly calls her the 101st U.S. Senator.
